To learn more go here.

How did you get started in working on childrens books? I started writing and illustrating my own books as an outlet for my creativity while working in animation. I would work on animated films during the day and my own stuff at night.

What children?s book authors are you inspired by? Tim Burton and Oliver Jeffers.

Is there a project/assignment that you worked on that is especially memorable? (tell us about it?) Nothing jumps out at me. I love all my projects and each one represents a different time in my life.

Do you feel that you have your own style in illustrating childrens book? Yes. Would you say it?s instantly recognizable as yours? Maybe. I guess it depends on how familiar the reader is with my work.

What advice can you give students about doing their own childrens books? (Writing or illustrating) Draw constantly , write a lot, and even though the notes may seem bad they usually end up making the book better. Just keep putting stuff out there and make each one better than the last.

Here?s a interview with James Burks that he did with us back in 2010!

Make sure you join James at the Nucleus Gallery event January 20th, where he?ll be speaking on getting an agent and getting publishing in the children?s book market. For more info click here
